Lighting the way

Filament

Filament Biotech Solutions specializes in finding, developing, and commercializing biopharmaceutical innovations. The founders, who hold both Ph.D.’s in Biochemistry and MBAs, combine a grasp of the science and the commercial potential of new ideas emerging from New York City university laboratories. The company name refers to the wire within a light bulb that glows as an electrical current passes through it—a purposely more scientific take on the idea=lightbulb metaphor.

The problem? The company’s strategic advantage is being able to comprehend impossibly complex ideas. Now go make a logo.

Don't mix metaphors

Because of the highly specific name, we stuck to the metaphor of illumination for the identity, which featured a yellow and orange glow across all collateral. We also created a system of icons in order to complete the abstract-to-concrete metaphor.

The results

Filament has been adding very promising products to their development pipeline. The growing company continues to add staff and leadership. Recently, the founders created the venture capital firm CROSSWALK to help fund biopharmaceutical start-ups—another step towards taking advantage of New York City’s scientific activity.
