About 15 years ago, a friend and I started the Gastronauts, an eating club for adventurous eaters. It began as a way for a few close friends to meet regularly, explore the city, and eat strange and delicious foods. These get-togethers gradually ballooned into a 4000+ member eating club with chapters in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Monthly dinners vary in size from 30 to 100 people, depending on the venue, making the Gastronauts the largest club of its kind in the world.
The aim always is to explore the culinary riches of the city and get friends together to eat interesting dishes. We search extensively for the right restaurants and carefully curate each dinner. We often persuade grateful and excited chefs to go off their fixed menu and make special dishes just for the club.
Many friendships have been formed through the club and some have even resulted in marriages and babies. One particular point of pride as a designer is that one member even went so far as to get a tattoo of the Gastronauts logo.
